#SQLSatVienna 2015 Recap

Last weekend, the second SQLSaturday in Vienna (SQLSaturday374) had happened at JUFA Wien. This year, it was really a SQLSaturday in contrast to the last year where the event happened on a Thursday.

Friday – Pre-conference Workshops

We started the SQL-conference time with two pre-conference days at the Microsoft Austria’s Office.

  • Reza Rad and Leila Etaati gave a great overview about PowerBI and all the accompanying tools and services.
  • Dejan Sarka got into details about Advanced DataModeling and temporal query optimization.

Thanks to you – the pre-conf speakers – for sharing your deep knowledge with us!

Leila and Reza just a few minutes before the start of the pre-con. Dejan – Full of energy before a full day of DataModeling best-practices.

Friday – Speakers dinner

On Friday evening the majority of speakers, sponsors and volunteers joined together for the speakers dinner at Schloss Concordia. A vast variety of Wiener Schnitzel, filled Schnitzel and delicious desserts had been served.

Saturday – It’s SQLSaturday time!

Saturday morning before 08:00 – the first attendees arrived at the venue of SQLSatVienna – the JUFA Hotel Vienna City. Starting the day with coffee and sandwiches gave us all the energy for a full day of extraordinary SQL-training.

The full-packed keynote room was still too small for all the attendees that waited for the keynote-speaker: Mark Souza from Microsoft Corp. In his keynote, Marc shared interesting insights about the future of SQL Server, Azure SQL Database and Microsoft Azure in general. I think everyone of the attendees enjoyed these deep insights.

After the keynote, the session started. Deep dive sessions about a wide range of topics have been presented by speakers from around the world: New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, United States, Great Britain, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Hungary, Denmark, Germany, Austria, … and I hope I forgot no country (please give me a DM if I forgot one..)

The feedback we got from the organizers was great – Thanks to all the speakers that made their way to Vienna! The majority of sessions are already uploaded to the >> Schedule page <<
