I am not in Seattle this week so I had to watch the Fabric GA (general availability) announcement session with Amir, Arun, Justyna, Jessica and Patrick.
And wow – although I could try and play with Microsoft Fabric in private and public preview and even build some PoC for our customers I was really impressed by the news that were announced during the session.
Note: It’s not too late to register for Ignite (virtual edition) for free and re-watch the recording of this session (https://ignite.microsoft.com/en-US/sessions/1eff13d6-1924-435a-8778-111d7131f061?source=sessions)
But now, it’s time for some pictures from the session and some feature mentions…
Arun entered the stage and opened the session – Microsoft Fabric is GA!
Patrick demoed the data integration part – connect to one of the 100? sources and bring data into OneLake
And build a semantic model in the browser, in the Microsoft Fabric portal
OneLake – the central storage for all your data
- One data lake for your enterprise
- a virtual data lake
- managed by Microsoft
- Software as a Service
- Geo-distribution is possible (based on the capacity)
Synapse Realtime Analytics
Justyna demoed Synapse Real-time Analytics
From a data stream into a Lakehouse .. into a Notebook
into a Power BI report embedded in a Notebook in Microsoft Fabric
Better together- DataBricks 💘 OneLake
As OneLake is based on opensource, open standard delta tables, Databricks can write and read data to and from OneLake
ShortCuts
One copy of your data principle – create a shortcut to data in other storage systems and do not copy it to OneLake – just add a reference
- Azure Data Lake Storage
- Amazon S3
- Dataverse
And what about databases? Introducing Mirroring for Microsoft Fabric
Mirroring follows a similar technique as shortcuts – “reference the data wherever it lives” .. and the mirroring brings it to your OneLake .. automagically
Multi-Cloud and even multi-system queries are able with Mirroring
Data Lineage in Microsoft Fabric includes and spans over to mirrored systems ! very nice
Copilot in Microsoft Fabric
"Copilots will be coming to every part of Microsoft Fabric"
Let’s start with Data Integration
And Copilot in Notebooks
a new magic command %%code … 🪄🪄
And Copilot in Power BI
That one is rolling out starting today.. Amir said: “Some of you will get it sooner, some of you will have to wait longer.. “
Let the Copilot create your reports…
